Jesse Groenewald
Jesse Groenewald received his first violin lessons at the
age of eight. In February 2011 he started his Diploma and
Bachelor studies at Stellenbosch University, South Africa. In
2017 he began his master’s degree in baroque violin (Dr. Prof.
Pauline Nobes) at the Würzburg University of Music. In
2019/2020 he completed his baroque violin master's degree and
in 2022 he completed his master's degree in baroque viola (Dr.
Tassilo Erhardt) at the same conservatory.
During his studies, Jesse had the opportunity to share the

Zückermann. A highlight was his participation in the project
"Reflecting the Seasons" a new "Gypsy Jazz" interpretation of
Vivaldi's Seasons conducted by Tim Kliphuis and the Tim
Kliphuis Trio.
As a baroque musician, Jesse had the opportunity to perform
Bach's Mass in B minor with the Hochschule für Musik Mainz in
South Africa. Since 2017 Jesse has played with various baroque
ensembles and orchestras including La Strada Armonica and
Arsanti Consort and since 2022 Jesse has been playing with the
European Baroque Orchestra Le Chardon. He also took part in
workshops with lira da braccio (Baptiste Roman), early baroque
diminution practice (Prof. Frithjof Smith) and viola d'amore
(Ludwig Lampe).
Jesse currently works as a violin and viola teacher at
various music schools and performs concerts on the baroque
